Rach 3 Live!

It’s my first time to list to the live performance of Rach 3 two days ago. Known for its difficulty and ferocious movements, Rach 3 is considered as one of most demanding pieces by many virtuosos. The music never disappoints me. My hand is compulsive to move with the player’s fingers during the rampaging parts, but the romantic parts open up like the fresh sky. To me, listening to Rach 3 is a healing process.

However, I couldn’t enjoy Shostakovich‘s Symphony No. 15. Very low and slow. People deem it as subtle and full of puzzles, but I couldn’t understand it.

如果你也听说 – 张惠妹

A-mei is my favorite female singer. This is not a new song, but it’s new to me. So powerful, so beautiful.

Adopting a Cat

A friend is leaving for China because of job change, he found us to be the trusted friends to take care his beloved cat. When he brought the cat, who is a girl named DunDun, to our home, the cat showed no fear and started exploring the house right away. However, after we put the flea-control collar on her neck, it seemed that she suddenly realized she’s got a new host, so she rushed to the back of the couch and didn’t want to come out no matter what tricks my friend played with her. For the whole night, she hide either under the table or behind the TV, watched us anxiously and vulnerably.

The friend explained to us this is normal and it could last for a few days. To his disappointment, it only lasted one day. Last night, the second day she’s in our home, she started wooing my wife by rubbing against her legs. Today, she already trusts us enough by constantly pushing her head against us (head butts) or even showing her belly.

One thing concerns me is that she almost hasn’t eaten anything for the past two days. I hope that’s just because everything is too new for her.

The Hurt Locker

The Hurt Locker was the biggest winner of this year’s Oscar. My predication was wrong. The Hurt Locker did earn much attention and the critics swing to it as well lately in the award season. I’m not fully convinced though. Given that I watched the movie on the plane to China, I didn’t miss the inherent intensity. However, it is so focused on one man’s heroic actions without trying to investigate the complexity around it. It’s a small movie with a narrow intention. I bet the success is a surprise to its own film maker.

Avatar does not deserve it either. It has not much else other than the stunning visual effects. I have to say, this is a weak year for the Best Pictures.
